Some history ...
In the 1970s, water sports in Flanders took off rapidly. Thanks to good cooperation between the Flemish water sports federations and the Flemish government, new port infrastructures were built on the Flemish coast. In that context, the old fishing harbor and the sluice basin in Blankenberge were also transformed into a modern marina. Over the years, many additional works have been carried out that have led to the marina as we know it today: modernly equipped, an eye-catcher for our visitors, wide walking paths, surrounding catering establishments, increased storm barriers, etc.
The old fishing port was the economic heart of Blankenberge at the time. Where in previous centuries the typical flat fishing boats moored on the beach, there was an increasing need for a real shelter harbor, which was only put into use in 1871. From that period onwards, however, tourism also gained in importance and the fishing fleet decreased in number year after year.
The flushing basin dates from the same period and was originally constructed to flush the channel with the force of the flushing water. It allowed boats with more draft to be given access to the harbour.
After WWII, fishing activity could not revive again, and the rise of tourism made the development into a marina a viable alternative, later expanded with the spuikom.
VVW Blankenberge is one of the yacht clubs that have been responsible for the operation of our Blankenberge marina since 1981. We lived in the old Sas building for many years. However, this building became too small and was very outdated... so the need for a larger and modern clubhouse became apparent.
Since 2012 you can visit our new yacht clubhouse, with offices, a well-equipped meeting room, a modern sanitary block, and a culinary restaurant 'Cabo'. And next to the old Sashuis you will find Le Bateau - with a very spacious sun terrace.

Un peu d' histoire ...
Dans les années 1970, les sports nautiques connaissent un essor rapide en Flandre. Grâce à une bonne coopération entre les fédérations flamandes de sports nautiques et le gouvernement flamand, de nouvelles infrastructures portuaires ont été construites sur la côte flamande. Dans ce contexte, l'ancien port de pêche et le bassin d'écluse de Blankenberge ont également été transformés en une marina moderne. Au fil des années, de nombreux travaux supplémentaires ont été réalisés qui ont conduit à la marina telle que nous la connaissons aujourd'hui : un équipement moderne, un accroche-regard pour nos visiteurs, de larges sentiers pédestres, des établissements de restauration environnants, des barrières anti-tempête accrues, etc.
L'ancien port de pêche était à l'époque le cœur économique de Blankenberge. Là où, au cours des siècles précédents, les typiques bateaux de pêche plats amarraient sur la plage, il y avait un besoin croissant d'un véritable port-abri, qui n'a été mis en service qu'en 1871. Mais à partir de cette période, le tourisme a également pris de l'importance et le nombre de la flotte de pêche a diminué d'année en année.
Le bassin de chasse date de la même période et a été construit à l'origine pour rincer le canal avec la force de l'eau de chasse. Il permettait aux bateaux ayant plus de tirant d'eau d'accéder au port.
Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'activité de pêche n'a pas pu reprendre et l'essor du tourisme a fait de la transformation en marina une alternative viable, élargie plus tard avec le spuikom.
Le VVW Blankenberge fait partie des yacht clubs responsables de l'exploitation de notre marina de Blankenberge depuis 1981. Nous avons vécu pendant de nombreuses années dans l'ancien immeuble Sas. Cependant, ce bâtiment est devenu trop petit et très vétuste... le besoin d'un club-house plus grand et moderne est donc devenu évident.
Depuis 2012, vous pouvez visiter notre nouveau yacht clubhouse, avec des bureaux, une salle de réunion bien équipée, un bloc sanitaire moderne et un restaurant culinaire 'Cabo'. Et à côté du vieux Sashuis, vous trouverez Le Bateau - avec une très grande terrasse ensoleillée.
